Hot Nickels Lacrosse League 2.0

 

Bucktown Lacrosse is excited to announce the second season of the Hot Nickels Lacrosse League (5 vs. 5). The five vs. five, Hot Nickels Lacrosse League is designed for players looking to improve their skills in a fast-paced, fun environment. Players will be instructed on pick-play, moving without the ball and other individual techniques in a team setting. The field will be modified (55 x 30 yards) to decrease space and increase skill development. For more information on the rules and game-play, see below. 

 

Who - Designed for players in K - 6th grade.

Each player who registers will be placed on a team with 10-12 other players in the same grade.

 

What - Games will consist of 5 vs. 5 end to end action for 50 minutes.

 

When -  Games will run on Sunday afternoon's starting March 4. Each team will play in 8 games over the course of the spring. Game times TBD.

 

Where - Games will be held at Cardinal Gibbons HS.

 

Why switch to 5 vs. 5?

 

  1. More Reps during game play.
  2. More playing time. Players will learn in smaller groups and have more opportunities to play.
  3. More fun - Players will have the opportunity to learn while they'e having fun playing the game they love.  

PENALTIES

  1. PERSONAL FOULS WILL RESULT IN A “PLAY ON” SITUATION. OFFICIALS WILL SEND PLAYER TO THE BOX.  PLAYER WILL COMPLETE 10 PUSH UPS OR SIT UPS BEFORE RETURNING TO THE FIELD OF PLAY. 

  2. TECHNICAL FOULS WILL RESULT IN A PLAY ON SITUATION. OFFICIALS WILL SEND PLAYER TO THE BOX.  PLAYER WILL COMPLETE 5 PUSH UPS OR SIT UPS BEFORE RETURNING TO THE FIELD OF PLAY. 

CONCEPTS: 

THIS LEAGUE WILL REWARD FUNDAMENTAL SHOOTING, SELFLESS TEAM PLAY, AND SOUND DEFENSIVE PRINCIPLES.

  1. PLAY WILL BE NON-STOP, SIMILAR TO BOX LACROSSE, AND PLAYERS WILL LEARN TO SUBSTITUTE ON THE FLY. 

  2. TRANSITION WILL BE CONSTANT. 

  3. “HOUSE” TECHNIQUE ON DEFENSE. TEACHING PLAYERS TO DEFENSE THE PAINT (AREA RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE GOAL).

  4. OFFENSE - WILL FOCUS ON PICK PLAY AND OFF BALL CUTS.

GENERAL GAME PLAY

RULES:

  1. ALL GAMES WILL CONSIST OF FOUR, TEN MINUTE QUARTERS WITH A 5 MINUTE HALF TIME IN BETWEEN. THE CLOCK WILL NOT STOP UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, EXCEPT FOR A WEATHER DELAY.  

    1. AT THE END OF EACH QUARTER, THERE WILL BE A BALL HUNT TO RETRIEVE AND REPLACE THE BALLS ON THE SIDELINES AND ENDLINES.  

  2. ALL PLAYERS MUST BE EQUIPPED IN FULL LACROSSE GEAR INCLUDING: HELMET, MOUTHPIECE, SHOULDER PADS, ELBOW PADS, CUP, GLOVES AND LEGAL STICK. ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT (RIB PADS OR BICEP PADS ARE OPTIONAL). PLAYERS MUST ALSO HAVE UPDATED US LACROSSE NUMBER TO PARTICIPATE. 

  3. EACH TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED TO FIELD FIVE FIELD PLAYERS AND ONE GOALIE DURING GAME PLAY. 

    1. GOALIES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE SUBSTITUTED FOR AN ADDITIONAL FIELD PLAYER.

    2. GOALIES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CROSS THE MIDLINE. 

  4. EACH TEAM WILL CARRY 10-12 PLAYERS. PLAYERS CAN ONLY SUBSTITUTE DURING GAME PLAY OR HALF TIME. 

  5. EACH GAME WILL START WITH A ONE VS. ONE, GENTLEMAN'S GAME, OF ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS TO DETERMINE INITIAL POSSESSION. TEAMS WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO PLAY OFFENSE, DEFENSE, OR DEFER TO THE SECOND HALF.  

  6. THERE WILL BE NO FACE-OFF’S

  7. EACH FIELD WILL HAVE FORTY BALLS ON THE SIDELINE AND ENDLINE TO ENSURE QUICK RESTARTS.

    1. TURNOVERS WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF POSSESSION AS WELL AS MISSED SHOTS.

  8. THERE IS NO OFFSIDES.

  9. THERE ARE NO LONG POLES ALLOWED IN GAME PLAY. 

  10. THERE ARE NO BODY CHECKS ALLOWED. 

  11. CROSS-CHECKS ARE NOT ALLOWED. 

  12. ONE-HANDED CHECKS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
